Activating my ethernet makes my internet connection stop working

First I connect to the internet using an external modem on ppp1.
Then I activate my ethernet card on eth1. Right away I can't view any webpages. And when I try to visit a webpage my ethernet card starts blinking away instead of my external modem.

It seems like when I active my ethernet card it tries to connect to the internet through that even though I'm already connected through my external modem.

Any way to fix this?

All I had to do was:
1. Open: /etc/sysconfig/network
2. Add this line: GATEWAYDEV=ppp1

That made ppp1 the default way to access the internet. Now it does not try to use the ethernet card.

Sorry about the double post. This is the second time I've answered my own question in this forum! Hopefully someone will benefit from the answer.
