What are the outliner software options for linux/slackware?

Do you use any? Anything good to recommend?

The few I've found on the internet:

5 outliners for linux
Tuxcards and KnowIt: Open source outlining
Freemind: mind-mapping
Some info on outliners: Wiki on outliners

I use MaxThink from the DOS era.

Thanks.

I still use the deprecated Thought tracker (Marco Goetze) and in VIM vim-outliner (Steve Litt).

Hi,

I still use pencil & paper for simple outlines.

So 'vim' by using;
The Vim Outliner - Turn vim into a full-featured text ... or a great Linux vimoutliner along with The VimOutliner Project could be used.

I haven't done this for a while but it is doable. On my re-do list along with a hundred other things. I don't know if there's been a update but will check when I re-do.

BTW, look at LibreOffice. You can outline via the tools menu. I haven't used it to outline but use it for word work daily. Much better than OO. Crisp & clean!

I installed LibreOffice from Alien_Bob's new server;

Grab the packages here: http://slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/libreoffice/ or use his fast mirror at http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/pe...s/libreoffice/

Does any of these outliners allow exporting of a sub-topic/node/branch to a file? and auto-remove the subtopics after exporting? thanks.

It would be great if they have fixed the outlining in libreoffice, I tried in OO and it just didn't work. I need to find a working install for 13.0, alian bobs doesn't work on it and aparently rpm2tgz doesn't work anymore either.

A new option

I realize that this is a really old post but the problem itself has nagged Linux users (including yours truly) since Linus set the Linux clock in motion. Anyone using Ubuntu or a derivative like Linux Mint may want to consider trying Hiero (http://productivepenguin.blogspot.co...for-linux.html). It's mostly intended for article/blog post authors and such but it can also help you manage a to do list if you don't require too many bells and whistles. Cheers!

Org mode for Emacs. You can use it in ways from being a simple outliner, to a todo/agenda tracker and notes organizer. Its best feature for me, though, is its Babel submode which allows me to write code blocks that I can also execute or otherwise export as standalone code; this is an example.

Emacs org-mode is pretty cool, and I love Emacs, but I have yet to find a way to make org-mode use standard outline headers like:

Code:
I. Heading 1
   A. Heading 2
      1.  Heading 3
          i.  Heading 4,
              a. etc.
