Since I use XFCE4, I use its file manager Thunar. I used to use PCManFM, but I switched to Thunar full time after it got tabs. Ironically, though, I don't use tabs so much for file browsing and management anymore.
One reason I have preferred Konqueror over Dolphin is that I can have multiple tabs pointing to different directories in Konqueror, though I see that you can now do that in Dolphin and have a split view within the tabs.
I don't think you could do that when it first came out, but I may be wrong; I gave it a quick look and kept using Konqueror, which had been the default file manager before KDE v. 4. It has happened. The last time was almost two hours ago when I made a wrong turn and missed a meeting . . . .
