Webcam breaks sound

When I boot with my usb webcam plugged in it gets detected as the first sound device (it has a mic). This stops me from having any sound.
Alsaconf detects my sound card and the modules load.
When I boot without the webcam plugged in everything works fine.

Shilo (in an earlier thread) suggested to me that it could be an issue with my kernel config or maybe the module loading order.

Any advice? If I need to change the module loading order how do I do this?

Thanks.
