VMware Tools and Kernel headers

Hi all,

I'm a bit stuck with a VMware Tools and kernel headers problem on Slack 12.1.

When I try and install the tools, I get the following error:

Code:
The directory of kernel headers (version 2.6.24.5-smp) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.24.5). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel.
During install I deselected the smp kernel, so I don't know this has come about.

Does anyone know how I can get past this?

Many thanks,

Mark.

Please look in the the /extra/linux-2.6.24.5-nosmp-sdk/ directory. Here is an online mirror: http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwar...4.5-nosmp-sdk/
Read the instructions in the README.TXT and modify your kernel source so that you will be able to compile kernel modules for your non-SMP kernel.

Hi Eric,

Thanks.

I have downloaded and installed the non-smp kernel and it still didn't work. I guess the patching step is what I couldn't figure out.

I'll give it a go.

Did you run the ./patch-to-non-smp.sh script as the README indicated?
If so, are the errors you are seeing still the same?
