I just started playing with VMware and I'm having simular problems. At work on a Mandrake box I set it up, and Windows XP did the same thing... once it went started booting it didn't display anything.
Now I just got it set up on my Slack box at home, and Windows ME boots up fine, attempts to perform scan disk and freezes- if I cancel scan disk it freezes as well.
i've got xp runnin' fine in slack with vmware, cant get sound or modem to work correctly. what do you mean by text? is it the virtual bios? perhaps you have a problem with the registration code microsoft makes you send in to use the comp after a month. a window did pop up saying something about xp and the number. my xp is hacked, i dont need the number.
I was asked about a number too... xp is hacked tho so ignored...
on a subsquent boot it asked me if i wanted to boot in safe mode... i asked it to boot with command prompt...which told me what it was doing as xp booted... as it got to the point where the vga display starts.. it went blank... as if it couldn't display vga
I don't think that was the problem... I can boot from a CD under the virtual machine with it config'd as an IDE device. So the VM recognizes it, but windows doesn't
It wouldn't bother me too much, but you need cd-rom support to install vm tools.
