Question Vmware Panic with Slack 9.0

Hi,

I wanted to install vmware 3.0 on my slack 9.0 system. During installation there were no problems. So I wanted to create a virtual win2000-machine. When I tried to start the virtual machine, vmware crashed an I got the error message:
VMware PANIC: (ide0:0) NOT_IMPLEMENTED F(831):688
VMware PANIC: (VMX) AIO: NOT_IMPLEMENTED F(831):688
I had also tried to create a win98-machine. I got the same error.
On Slackware 8.1 with the same kernel settings I had no problems.
Any ideas?

Greetings

Zorolowski

OK,
vmware crashes before the virtual machine will start.
At last I made some changes in the configuration editor. The virtual machine only starts, when I disable all scsi-, ide- and floppydevices. Otherwise I get an errrormessage like I wrote in my first message.
These are some lines out of the logfile (I installed only one scsi disk):
May 01 18:57:54: VMX|(VMX) DeclareThread scsi0:0 module=16 source=0x200000
May 01 18:57:54: VMX|Creating thread 'scsi0:0', type 16 from self, pid=1750
May 01 18:57:54: VMX|Created AIO scsi0:0 pid=1750 sharedArea=0x40020000 size=0x2000
May 01 18:57:54: UI|VMX(UI): changing state 0 from 1870 to 1871, nesting 0
May 01 18:57:54: UI|VMX(UI): changing state 1 from 1873 to 1873, nesting 0
May 01 18:57:54: VMX|(SELF) DeclareThread scsi0:0 module=16 source=0x200000
May 01 18:57:54: scsi0:0|(scsi0:0) DeclareThread VMX module=1 source=0x10000
May 01 18:57:54: scsi0:0|NOT_IMPLEMENTED F(831):688
May 01 18:57:54: scsi0:0|AIO: scsi0:0, Process 1750 panic.
May 01 18:57:54: scsi0:0|AIOSlave: Exit after panic.
May 01 18:57:54: VMX|AIO: NOT_IMPLEMENTED F(831):688

Greetings

Check this out. It may well be that you need to compine the kernel modules.

http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~jbyrne/vmware.htm

He gives extensive instructions, and I have been successful in getting vmware to work with them. See if you did something different.

Hope it helps. Viel Glueck.
