slack 9.1 + vmware

Hi

i have probably read all thread related to this problem but none of them helped me to fully solve my problem.

I have installed Slackware 9.1 on Vmware Workstation 4.05 - I can say i followed spaceman's instructions in this thread
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...5&pagenumber=2
Quote:
* boot: scsi.s
* fdisk /dev/sda
* select 'n' followed by 'p' then selected the defaults
* select 'w' which saves the settings
* cfdisk
* make sure sda has boot selected
* setup
* addswap
* selected the packages
* I chose the menu install
* Select a kernel from CDROM and choose the 'scsi.s/bzImage' kernel.
* skip a bootdisk
* no modem
* enable hotplug
* install simple lilo
* install LILO in the MBR
even when I installed it before i read it

Anyway the system stucks with blank screen before it even boots. I can start it when I boot from installation CD and type "scsi.s root=/dev/sda1 noinitrd ro" at 'boot:' screen.

I even tried to create the computer again with IDE hard drive instead of default SCSI and get the same error (no, I didnt install scsi kernel this time ) Which is quite weird imo (I also tried to install it to MS Virtual PC and surprisingly got the same error, but maybe it was caused by Virtual PC as it officialy doesnt support Linux)

Here is content of my lilo.conf (from the first virtual machine with SCSI hard drive):
Quote:
scsi.s
boot = dev/sda1
message = /boot/boot_message.txt
prompt
timeout = 1200

change-rules
reset
vga = normal

image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/sda1
label = Linux
read-only
To be honest I m not sure about the first line, maybe I has been added by me, really cant remember.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thx for your time

Muah

Why do you feel you need to install Slackware in vmware? You can get a very cheap computer off ebay or something and actually have a Slackware machine

i have never installed slackware in vmware, but if you get to a blank screen after vmware goes through its bootup sequence then you have a problem with your lilo install you are not hitting lilo, so basically your computer is sitting there looking for some place to look for boot info. Is sda1 marked as an active partition? are you sure your kernel is on sda1?

scsi.s
boot = dev/sda1 <----------this is just info for lilo install but make it /dev/sda1 then rerun lilo
message = /boot/boot_message.txt
prompt
timeout = 1200

make sure sda1 is marked as an active partition too.

You're missing a slash in the 'boot=' line. It should be:

boot = /dev/sda1

And you should also remove the line 'scsi.s', it serves no purpose.

When you run lilo, make sure that you get the message 'Linux added'

Enjoy!

Thanks

that missing slash was my typo when i copied the text to the browser on other machine, sorry for that (its correct in lilo.conf).

I ll remove "scsi.s".

When should i get the message 'Linux added' ? I didnt get it during installation of slackware (when it asked for lilo configuration)

Regards
