At http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/vlc/ you can find a VLC package that does not need any other packages to work. All the additional functionality is compiled right into the pacakge.
Installation of libdvdcss is optional in case you want to play encrypted DVD's (i.e. the majority of DVD's on the market).
I guess it depends on whether you want a precompiled package that you install with 'installpkg' or whether you want to build it from source.
I'd opt for the 'pkg' myself...
Hey Eric, I can't believe I'm asking this but.... Anyway you could extend the length of your Name field in ~alien? The only way I can find specific stuff on your site is to hover over each one and look at the bottom link... Aren't I knit picky?

Hi jong357
How do you mean? On my slackbuilds site? I don't find a place where the 'name' field is too small to encompass the full names...
I think he means where for instance packages are listed in a directory you only see the first the 20 or so characters of the path/filename. This is an option in apache for style but I don't remember it off hand. When the style is turned off full filenames will be listed like
h ttp://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/TiMidity++/pkg/10.2/TiMidity++-2.13.2-i486-1.tgz.md5
Alien Bob,now VLC is working but i need to start it twice,otherwise the screen stays blue and i get this output:

Eric
Well, the VLC directory does for me but perhaps it's because I bump my default font up a tad since I'm going blind..
Pretty sure that:
Code:
IndexOptions +NameWidth=*
Will make the field only as long as the longest name. And ofcourse it's browser dependent so it'll probably look a little longer for me than it does you. If you can already see the full file names for all vlc stuff then it won't even do anything on your browser. But for me, it'll expand the name column so I can see everything.
No biggie. Just time consuming mousing over every one cause the extensions are cut off.

Right, I think... I'm not talking about the header. Extra long header path names just give you a bottom scrollbar. No biggie. I'm talking about the actual Name Listings. All I see there is 5 listings of:
TiMidity++-2.13.2-i4..>
Impossible to tell what is what. I've been wanting to email Pat about this too but I've bugged him about so many 'little' things in the past that I probably go straight to his spam box now.. :-) I'm still not seeing setup.info or setup.icon-cache included in their respective packages... That's a joke by the way...
