Question Video4Linux & a Web Cam

First, I'm running Slackware 12, kernel 2.6.21.5-smp.
I found a old "Alaris weeCam USB" while looking for something else, so I thought I would see if it would work with Kopete which uses Video4Linux. So I read the man page and did what it said, put "Load v4l" in the xorg.conf file and that is all it says to do. Apparently there are no adjustments to be made and the module is built-in to the kernel. Did as instructed, but still no joy.
Does anyone know what else, if anything, needs to be done to get the camera to work?
Yes, the cam is seen on the usb port.
Thank you very much!

Get the info about you webcam bu issuing:
/sbin/lsusb

see your exact webcam specifications and then do a little googling to find the linux driver for your camera. Then you have to build and install the module. Finally modprobe the necessary module. In case you kernel automatically loads an incorrect driver for your camera, you will have to rmmod the wrong module and then load the one you have compiled.
