using libtool with libldap to create libldap.la

I'm attempting to compile some software (transmission) that is failing because libldap.la does not exist on my system. I have the libldap.a library, just not the .la file. Is there an easy way to use libtool to create the desired .la file without essentially rebuilding the library from source? Should I just try to modify the transmission source instead?

The .la files are generated text files, so I could just try to fake it. Copy an existing one and change the values, hope they work. Still, I'd be happier knowing the right way to do this.

[edit to remove phenomenal stupidity]

thanks----

Proper way would be to rebuild ldap so that it includes the *.la file.

All Slackware openldap-client packages have a libldap.la ,
just checked 12 , 12.2 , 13.

Please build openldap using the "openldap-client.SlackBuild"
script to get it.
