Question Do one need in libtool?

I write C libraries. I found libtool.
I tried to compile my libraries with
it but did not found any advantages.
Can anybody explain why libtool is
created for? What does it do more

And else. I write libraries using
ncurses. And it is not compiled with
libtool, so I cannot use
dependencies auto satisfying (hope it
is clear).
