Take a look at the "This is how I do it all" sticky, and look for the ZAxisMapping part (in the first post). You may have to change the protocol to IMPS/2 (may not be IMPS, but something really close. I'm doing this from memory, but I can't remember the letters).

i had the same problem, tried IMPS/2 and it didn't work
then i tried ExplorerPS/2 and it worked ok

I also had to add this line:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
and changed:
Option "Buttons" "3"

then mouse wheel worked ok
try runing xev and scroll the mouse wheel, watch carefully witch button a down and with a up scroll uses
mine are 4 up and 5 down

Try this line:

Code:
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
instead of

Code:
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
