Hi, i started up my computer today in runlevel 3, and noticed a small message amongst many others that has got me curious. What does this mean?

Sounds like you overwrote your /etc/password. Did you recently update Slackware?

Could also be a possibility that you installed Robby Workman's XFCE 4.8.0 packages (http://slackware.com/~rworkman/xfce-4.8/). That includes a avahi package. Avahi requires that you create a useraccount named "avahi" which obviously you did not do. It would explain the warnings you are seeing.
