transparent menus in fluxbox

Quote:
2. How do I make my menus transparent?

You can make your menus transparent if you are running a recent version of fluxbox (0.9.2 or above) by changing the "Menu Alpha" value in the configure menu. 255 = Opaque, 0 = Invisible (completely transparent). A value around 160 seems to satisfy most people.
i found this at the fluxbox.org site, but i still dont understand it. im running the version that came with slackware 9.1 so it should be fairly recent. and i would like to make my menus slightly transparent.

anyone know how?

I upgraded from 0.9.4 to 0.9.6 recently and the menu transparency isn't working anymore. Not a big deal to me, I didn't even notice it for a couple of days. I don't know if the problem is mine or if it will correct itself in the next development release. Does anyone else have transparent menus with 0.9.6 ?

Enjoy!

[edit] Not sure if this is relevant, but when I compiled 0.9.6, I disabled the toolbar [/edit]

I just built flux from CVS today and it's working. I don't think I'll use that feature, but I tried it out.

The workspace and iconbar theme-elements are busted (but, oddly, the clock section works) - spent quite a bit of time re-learning how to reconstruct them (I haven't customized a theme since I was using blackbox) - but that wouldn't bother you. That's not a bug, I don't guess, but just a syntax incompatibility. Flux seems not to treat the toolbar as 'solid', allowing other apps to open under it - again wouldn't bother you. Root menu drawing after modifications to it seems very poor - kinda jittery and klunky, but it's a very subtle thing. Otherwise, everything seems solid enough. Better than the regular 0.9.6 release which completely screwed the slit and had other issues when I tried it awhile ago.

the second slackware disc has fluxbox 0.9.6., under extras. i just upgraded the package, and everything including transparent menus and slit, and rounded menu corners worked perfectly on my machine.

alternatively, linuxpackages.net also has a tgz.
