which feels a bit like an insult and a slap in the face. We certainly must be fools to put up with such an obviously inferior product! 15%! !! 1 5 % !! AND fixes easier, too! I'm eating Chateaubriand now while you lot are stuck eating Ground Round! No wonder people bristled a little.
I don't know vdemuth so I couldn't know if he was even genuine or just a fud-spreading,flame-bait, troll and the whole thing a construct. I thought I gave him the benefit of the doubt, while retaining some question as to his motives for posting it publicly and in a moderately negative manner.
So again, if genuine, I honestly wish vdemuth good fortune and that "the grass truly is greener" for him or at least more to his liking.
If you consider vdemuth's opinion to be "...an insult and a slap in the face" and make statements like, "...I don't know vdemuth so I couldn't know if he was even genuine or just a fud-spreading,flame-bait, troll and the whole thing a construct..." you are, one, too thin skinned to be participating on messages boards, and, two, more importantly, you are completely incapable of being objective. That was becoming apparent during the recent KDE thread, but now you have made it obvious.

Here's my take. I use Slackware, it is not my primary distro and never will be, and learn from it but I don't ask questions here for the very reasons Tobi pointed out.
I don't think that's relevant. The next thing you know there will be a queue of people all posting as to why they don't post in the Slackware forum... there is nothing stopping you from posting here, at the de facto official Debian forums, or anywhere else, if you don't that's entirely your choice.

Seems like a generalisation. Some slackware users have gotten into a frenzy, but it's almost always the same handful out of many, many users, who don't get involved. If you think a few people "ribbing" systemd is "getting into a frenzy", then that would be a misapprehension on your part. Yes there are a few, yes they can behave like zealots, but focusing on them and not posting much here because of them, then visiting this thread to inform us of this is just a little OTT.

These are valid points and because of this he has chosen to use a distro that does it all for him.
+1 agreed wholeheartedly.

As I said, it's a few - most people in this thread wished him well... so I don't see the need for this drama. It just increases the focus on the few who posted the fanboy stuff.

Kriminy! it was a question or statement of a condition of my not knowing or assuming NOT an accusation. Is this just a translation/interpretation problem?
However this is a statement. I made zero personal references to you in the KDE thread (or anyone else for that matter) and only reported data and actual first-hand experience. I'm not thin-skinned. I wasn't offended. I have simply learned to be skeptical and cautious when peoples motives aren't clear, especially on the web.
Other people suggested I ignore you and it seems that advice was not without some merit, since now you seem miffed with me and are twisting meanings, yet again to serve your prejudice.

Twisting meanings??!! Not at all.
There was nothing ambiguous about your statements. Since you are adroit at "spin," perhaps you should consider a career in politics?

And Shakespeare once stated, "kill all the lawyers"...
Here's a good thought on this matter... When you post your business in public online, always expect criticism, and don't complain over what the public at large says, positive or negative to what you posted.
I'm just getting to old for this crap and so have installed Suse. And what a difference. It boots faster, runs faster and installing software is so easy. I even broke it on purpose to see how to repair it and guess what, it even repairs faster and easier. So if Slackware as a desktop scores somewhere around 80% satisfaction, Suse adds at least 15% to that so far. Still looking for the 100% though
It looks like you've installed (open)SUSE recently so you've a relatively short experience with it, therefore making such assessments and judgements is just ridiculous. But each to his own..
Surprised such bland post takes such attention. It doesn't deserve it.

There's no way to say how good or bad a distribution is until about 3-4 months into it. I'm still evaluating FreeBSD on my end so I can't say whether or not it's going to be up to meeting my needs, but I'm not going to say it's better or worse than Slackware. To me, it's just different, but I like it.
In my case, I used Xubuntu on a laptop for 6 months but only because I wanted something easy to use for my wife, not me. It was nice but after a while getting the right packages was hit or miss with apt. It ran nice though, but it wasn't clear and easy to use for getting work done as far as packages. In the end, she ended up wanting Windows back.
I used Mandrake Linux for well over a year nearly a decade ago. It was all I knew, but was, at the time, a well balanced system in my opinion. It wasn't Slackware, but didn't have all the red tape of Red Hat which locked me out of updates after a hard drive failure forced a reinstall. I got my feet wet with it though.
Slackware, to me is a meld of simplicity and reliability. It's better overall than Mandrake was, and I like getting involved in my system also to customize it heavily. Plus, watching a compiler go to work is just... Interesting to watch.
