Oh... Only the mailbox is located on the NFS folder, not .thunderbird. /home/user isn't /home/moonsea that's just where I put the folder. The NFS folder/server justs acts as a NAS or a glorified external hard drive.
1) Open XMMS
2) in the playlist editor press "sel all" and then '- file' Now the playlist editor is empty
3) press "+ file" then navigate to audio files in NFS directory
4) select "add all files in directory"
5) if locking up does not happen, repeat steps 3 and 4 until it does
6) the "load files" dialog will hang and/or xmms will hang
7) if you open any other file manager, whether it's opening a file with your web browser or konqueror you will notice things are very slow and sometimes hang
I hope this makes the problem a little more clear. It doesn't have to XMMS, it can be Thunderbird or a text editor or a image editor. Although, it seems to me that it only happens with larger files, but not 10k text files.
ssh works fine. At least, so far as I've tested it.
hmm.... I noticed dmesg on the server said /dev/mmcblk0p1 needed fsck, so I umount /dev/mmcblk0p1 fsck.fat -a /dev/mmcblk0p1 which was mounted at /boot and reboot and it seems to be ok....for now...
Well, that might have stopped one of the lock ups ,but it hasn't stopped *all* of them. This other one seems to revolve around GTK or QT. Palemoon and Icecat lock up intermittently (Palemoon locks up more), but the default Firefox and Waterfox do not lock up. Thunderbird locks up, but not like before. It might just hang for a bit. QtFM, Geeqie, and XFE will hang for a long period.
I can't post steps to reproduce, other than to simply open XFE or QtFM and start browsing my NFS shares. Or surfing the web for a while.
Even ls the folder locks up and fluxbox delays loading the background image because it's linked .fluxbox/backgrounds -> /home/server/backgrounds
Is QT and GTK really unstable? I think all these applications are not on the Slackware CD. Geeqie, Thunderbird, Palemoon, Icecat, QT4/5, GTK, XFM, QtFM, and more I'm sure. If I get any locking up in a QT or GTK program and I reboot, my pc will lock up after it remounts / as read only. So, it must have something to do with file access, as it invariably locks up when it's accessing something on my local network, or even a script that was downloaded in a webpage(ie: disqus comment section)
If I try to open an image with an external program, it crashes the browser. If you go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_...nts_Church.jpg And click the download button in the lower right hand corner, a pop up showing a blue button stating "download original file" and open it with any external viewer, my browser (icecat) will crash.
The worst is https://finance.yahoo.com/ with Palemoon or Icecat, it just completely locks up the browser. With Chromium it's fine.
I really think I'm going to quit the internet, because this is just unusable. I type here, then about 5 seconds later the text appears. Are these symptoms of a key logger or some kind of virus?
Although, it's been happening with Chromium, just not as much.
Ok, now trying to use XMMS. I try to add files to playlist, but it locks up when I press 'file +' key, and simultaneously Thunderbird locks up and goes blank.
The only hint I'm getting is from dmesg:
Code:
Dec 17 16:42:18 linux kernel: [308479.453573] nfs: server server not responding, still trying
Ok, now I can't even flip through directories now. Not with XFE, not with QTFM, not with konqueror, not with xterm. I'd go back to windowns if not for all the spyware.
