Hello,

I recently published Flaxx which is a Fluxbox configuration that includes some enhancements (Modularized version of startup script, simple GUIs to select startup-modules, to configure the menu of preferred applications, to change the wallpaper, to take screenshots).

Here is a screenshot :

Name:	flaxx-14.2.jpg

Here are some videos of Fluxbox in action with configuration Flaxx :

Full documentation is available here.

Users who want to give it a try can get Slackware package here (tested on 14.2 and -current)

Important notes :
  • Take times to read the documentation before using Flaxx, and especially the point IV. Installing the configuration Flaxx.

  • Flaxx requires the following softwares to work properly :
    • fluxbox
    • xdgmenumaker
    • wmpamgen
    • dtfilemon
    • wmhelper
    • wmsvmgen
    • zenity

    Prebuilt packages of these softwares (with exception to fluxbox which comes as part of slackware) can be downloaded here.

  • if you want to use modules to start 3rd party softwares (ex. compton, conky, ...) with Fluxbox, you'll have to installed that softwares first.

Cheers.

Nice work. I've always thought Openbox was the best looking of the 'boxes. Maybe because it basically forces you to install a dedicated panel, etc.

Looks good. I was looking for theme for fluxbox as alternative to window maker -so I really appreciate your work - great thanks!

Well done, did you base it on Salix's fluxbox tools? They've had something similar for a few years now. But as I said, well done!

Custom logout menu is cool. Makes me want to maybe learn some gui programming.

How did you get the text all colorful both in the neofetch & top?

speaking of custom shutdown scripts:

~/bin/allowoff:
Code:
#! /bin/bash

play /home/cest/toot01.wav &
answer=$(xmessage -center -print -timeout 45 -buttons LOGOUT:2,SHUTDOWN:3,HIBERNATE:4,CANCEL:5 -default LOGOUT "Checkout options, pick one:")

echo user: $answer

case $answer in
	LOGOUT)
	echo "Logging out"
	# LOGOUT
	killall -QUIT fluxbox
	;;
	SHUTDOWN)
	echo "Shutting down"
	# SHUTDOWN
	sync && halt
	;;
	HIBERNATE)
	echo "Entering hibernation"
	# HIBERNATE
	sudo /usr/local/sbin/sws
	;;
	CANCEL)
	echo canceled
	exit
	;;
	*)
	echo Not possible to get an answer
	exit 2
esac
this was in old times when i placed it on a button on gkrellm...

Just install lolcat from sbopkg (requires three dependencies from rubygem)

after installation just pipe anything you want e.g.
neofetch | lolcat
top | lolcat
and so on.
I would not run very long scripts with lolcat though, because it makes it a bit slower, aside from that a bit of LSD on the screen is not so bad.

Logout screen is useful in simple *boxes and I have it adopted for Slackware and BSDs as they rely on the packages pretty common for most of OSes. Script is independent of WM so can be used with any graphical environment if needed.
I just add it to tint2 and in one click I have similar functionality as in Xfce or KDE
