Nice!

What do you mean by patched btw? Do you use the dev version of Fluxbox with the new "launch"-bar? Or is that the workspace on the left side of the toolbar?

It's the workspace list on the left side. It's a small modification of the workspacename tool to show all workspaces with an active one enclosed in square brackets.

One thing I'm still missing a bit is to be able to display textual information in the toolbar (kind of a universal tool). I would like to use it for displaying system information parsed by external scripts.

I didn't know about the news in the dev version of Fluxbox. Thanks for the information. I will check it out.

Nope, no official way to do that yet. One way is to shrink the toolbar to leave space for conky with same background as toolbar to display system information.

In the dev version of Fluxbox, there will be a new bar for buttons that are "clickable" for execution. Those buttons can be labeled to anything, and I believe this feature can be hacked to display system information together with fluxbox-remote "ReConfig" to refresh the labels. Too lazy to try out the dev version though.

Well, bbkid, all I can say is that rather epitomizes "Elegantly Simple". Nice job.

Not much change in look for the laptop, but the uptime is my personal record... and counting. In spite of that I'm very comfortable with the desktop and Robby's Xfce 4.14.

This is more of an 'evolutionary' desktop than a total departure from my normal Fluxbox setup:

https://i.imgur.com/rMP5UV6.png

It has taken almost 2 months for this new computer build to settle in, this screenshot demonstrates:
  1. Conky finally set the way I need with the 2 SSDs nicely detailed, GPU fans / temps / frequencies all dynamically shown
  2. My VM collection all rebuilt and in particular a new Windows 10 VM with slrn running nicely after a mostly native compile of slrn and friends under Windows
  3. Kernel compiling now set up and scripted as I am tracking 5.2.xx under Slackware -current, mostly for the fun of it
  4. A nice sea and sun background as those of us in the southern hemisphere leave winter behind

It has been a lot of fun

There is (there was?) library in OpenGL which allows to create complete crazy menus. Strange shapes, transparency etc. It would be cool to have such thing. Library is used to create menus in games - but you as well use it for desktop.

I'm not sure what OpenGL library you are referring to but it sounds interesting. I customized an existing plasma theme by editing the .svg files in ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/ with gimp. It's a little painstaking but no programming required

ctwm

ctwm with dclock, stalonetray, xload and xbiff. I use to be a regular user of ctwm many, many years ago, but for some reason I moved on. I noticed it had a new release recently so decided to give it a spin.

ctwm is as lite as ever and a as always very stable. So it is back as my regular goto environment.

Here is my print of my setup.
