The first is SlackE18 with the Everything Launcher open, the second has xterm in the background and firefox in the foreground with Pentadactyl and Tree Style Tab so my tabs are just icons down the side of the window.

I really like this one.

It reminds me of an old "grimoire" that contains numerous undiscovered things.

It would be nice if you could share somewhere the steps to reproduce this

Cheers.

Thanks! Very easy, really. Pulled in cwm from SlackBuilds (my favorite stacking WM).

Then, added my .Xresources (I think it was this one):

Soma, CLI app for somafm/mplayer. Just type "soma" into a terminal. Comes with a default Slack installation.

EDIT: comes from here.

JWJones : I will definitely give this rendering a shot in a VM.

With your help, I'm really interested in switching to a tiling WM instead of my actual Xfce.

cwm is a stacker, rather than a tiler. For tiling WMs, I like herbstluftwm, echinus, euclid, and larswm.

I used to like i3 more, but found that I had to do more tweaking to get the setup I wanted, than I do with others, such as getting rid of the title bars, etc.

I can see that, you can tie yourself up in knots sometimes with config files.
