Audio problems with the 5.4.21 kernel.
While all the audio controls/keys appear to work, no sound is reaching the speakers or headphones. After looking, again, at this morning's (or last night's, depending on your time zone) change log, I rebooted and loaded the previous kernel, 5.4.20, and the audio returned to normal.
On this particular motherboard the audio is, "Realtek ACL 887-VD2 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC"

Was this one of the config changes? That is, does the kernel module exist, or is it needing to be built now?

Mark your calendars.
It is quite rare to see "them" miss their mark, but at the moment they are nine hours passed their self-imposed deadline. Over the last hour new release candidates have been made available for testing, so it might be later today or, perhaps, tomorrow before we see any new kernel updates.
I believe Linus' weekly Sunday RC's are pretty much standard practice, and you can almost set your watch by them, but Greg's stable kernels are far more ad-hoc. Like you say, they're more often early than late, but it's not unheard of.
There'll likely be another along by Wednesday anyway.
