What is the sense to apply this AMD patch to a kernel running in a box which have an Intel Core i9-11900K as CPU?

I ask this because from what I understand, it has no effects in your system.

LuckyCyborg --

I am the only user I see in this thread who listed their CPU as Intel Core i9-11900K.

And I am running 5.15.y Kernels on Slackware64 15.0 + Multilib and I agree with you -- the patch is not for me and mine.

OTOH, 3rensho applied the AMD Patch and reported here.

I am not sure which Version of Slackware nor what CPU 3rensho is running.

@kjhambrick

I apologize! Seems like I've did a confusion.

Linux 6.0
The newest Stable Kernel, version 6.0, has been released.

The tarball, https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux...nux-6.0.tar.gz

Mr. Torvalds' announcement, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...0.0/00685.html
Quote:
Linux 6.0
From: Linus Torvalds
Date: Sun Oct 02 2022 - 17:30:14 EST

So, as is hopefully clear to everybody, the major version number
change is more about me running out of fingers and toes than it is
about any big fundamental changes.

But of course there's a lot of various changes in 6.0 - we've got over
15k non-merge commits in there in total, after all, and as such 6.0 is
one of the bigger releases at least in numbers of commits in a while.

The shortlog of changes below is only the last week since 6.0-rc7. A
little bit of everything, although the diffstat is dominated by drm
(mostly amd new chip support) and networking drivers.

And this obviously means that tomorrow I'll open the merge window for
6.1. Which - unlike 6.0 - has a number of fairly core new things lined
up. But for now, please do give this most recent kernel version a
whirl,

Linus

FWIW: Built and installed the 6.0 kernel and using the nouveau driver.
The only problem I've encountered so far is with video in Firefox-105.0.1, at both Prime and Netflix. All appears well until you start a video and then the image being streamed has a overcast of various colors, as if you are looking through color filters. Not a problem in Vivaldi or in Firefox when using the 5.19.12 kernel and the Nvidia driver.

This could be 5.19.13 as well. The changes are incremental and not that many new things were added to 6.0 vs 5.19.12
It is safe to say that upgrade to 6.0 will produce potentially no more headache than upgrading from 5.19.11 to 5.19.12
Video in FF works fine with intel video card. I would assume that nVidia, as usual, will fix any issues stemming for the kernel upgrade.

Kernel-6.0 built and running fine. Accepted all defaults for new config options. Nvidia-515.76 built and running as expected.

Year 2022, Round 59.

Another batch of updates has been scheduled for release on Wednesday, 5 October 2022, at approximately 07:00 GMT. If no problems are found while testing the release candidates, they might be available sometime on Tuesday (depending on your time zone).

The details:

5.19.13-rc1, with 101 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...0.0/00937.html

5.15.72-rc1, with 83 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...0.0/01013.html

5.10.147-rc1, with 52 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...0.0/01087.html

5.4.216-rc1, with 30 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...0.0/01125.html

4.19.261-rc1, with 25 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...0.0/01185.html

The patch for the old AMD problem, as discussed at the link below, does not appear to have been included in this batch of updates.

I forgot mentioned this was not a problem with the 6.0-rc7 kernel, nouveau and Firefox, so it appears it could be a change made to the kernel in the final 6.0 release?

Edit in: I see board member Aeterna beat me to it, so to speak.

None at all using VLC media player. Everything smoothe and seamless. Watched two videos this afternoon sans problem.

VLC, Xine, MPlayer, etc., all work as they should.

The problem, as I said, is with streaming video in Firefox with the 6.0 kernel and the nouveau driver. It was not a problem with 6.0-rc7 or with 5.19.12.
Tried SeaMonkey and Amazon returned an error saying the browser was not compatible with Amazon and to use Chrome.
Tried Pale Moon and the error was the browser is out of date and to update to a newer version of Firefox.

As I said, with Vivaldi and the 6.0 kernel, both Amazon Prime and Netflix work as they should.
