At this point it's also possible to burn CD's without using ide-scsi. By default cdrecord does not look for these devices, but you can tell it to by typing
cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATAPI:
and then using the results you get as part of your burn command
cdrecord -v -eject dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 cdimage.iso
You can also set the CDR_DEVICE environment variable to ATAPI:0,0,0 and not pass a device parameter to cdrecord when you burn a disc.
Thanks for the help I installed libdvdcss and am now able to watch dvds
Just one question if I want to copy my dvds to my hdd ... do I just copy the files?¿?¿? is it easier to use a program or add on for xine???
I am just wondering as if I just click on dvd it works fine but if I try browsing the dvd in xine it doesn´t seem to work.
I am kind of new to this dvd stuff... I didn´t realise that they were encripted so you can´t even copy directly fromt the dvd to the hdd! I am having a hell of a time trying to install a program to rip dvds!!
It's been a while, but as promised I have indeed checked the boot differences with the DVD scsi_ide emulation off, and the quality is NOTICABLY better... A.K.A. less choppy. However, it's still a pain in the butt to have to reboot.
I would start looking into the cd-record ATAPI options, but have since installed the 2.6.0 kernel, which supposedly deprecates the scsi-ide stuff anyway... which is to say after a recompile of a few components, everything should start working under a single boot environment.
Hey GAVollink what do you mean that the 2.6.0 deprecates the scsi-ide stuff anyway? I have been meaning to install the new kernal anyway as its now stable isnt it? I am really to new too all of this to be messing about with unstable kernals!! (So far!)
Oh yeah I dont seem to have any problems with playback quality in Linux (Although its a bit crap in windows!)
Oh well windows doesnt work now anyway je je some sort of a registry problem. I guess i have been finally pushed towards full time linux!
