I've used slack since 7.1 and every release for me has been better than the last, the only down side is that since its "stronger, better, faster" there is less problems to tinker with, of course this is not a negative but it does kind of take the fun out of it . That's why I love running current.
I started with 9.1 and I've run 1.0 in VirtualBox to see what it was like. I'm a Fluxbox user so KDE and GNOME changes don't affect me much. I have to say my favorite has been 12.2 only because 13.0 began using hal more and I had to spend time adjusting udev rules. 13.1 is the first since 9.1 to give me any problems because of libata and the hda->sda changes. I had to track down the relevant kernel options to make my custom 2.6.34 kernel work and once again adjust my udev rules.
The above link and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
Thanks. I did use that and it helped to get going with the 2.6.33.4 provided with Slack13.1. I was referring to my custom 2.6.34 kernel that I've tuned and tweaked since 2.6.x began. I just had difficulty finding which kernel options to enable/disable. After a few attempts and clues I found the answer in this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ernels-793583/
12.1 was terrific, with either KDE 3.5 or Xfce. So much that I used 13 only on a spare hard drive because I didn't want to give up my rock-solid KDE for months. I mean, regardless of which machine it was on, 12.1 just worked.
I couldn't be happier with Xfce 4.6.2 and 13.1 on both the x86 and x86_64 laptops. Three cheers for Pat, Eric, Robby & everybody else who makes it all happen. You guys rock sooo seriously.
