SW 12.2 email problem

Hi,
I just installed Sw12.2 and I'm having a small problem. '/home' is kept on it's own partition so I can reuse it if I change Oses. After installing 12.2, I reused my /home/username directory and made sure to chown -R username /home/username When I start SeaMonkey, I cannot access my email settings and my old email messages. The directories for the various email accounts still exist. No problem, I thought, I'll try installing Opera (.tar.gz) and import. Opera loads, but I get the following error:
Quote:
There was a problem initializing Opera Mail.

Store Init failed

Engine Init() failed
I can access all my old bookmarks, etc in both SeaMonkey and Opera, but not my email or email settings. I did a re-install (just in case) and repeated the above steps, but I still have the same issues.

When I start either app from the CL, I receive no errors (other than the graphical error for Opera). I'd post to the Mozilla Forums, but since I'm having problems with both browser suites, I'm wondering if there might be a small issue with Slackware 12.2.

Thanks,
-Joe G.

Hi,

(randomizer folder name) enclosed see what I mean. But this is what I don't like about Moz. and has been so for some time. Kmail does not do this.

If so, then it's not Slack, but it is a Moz "feature created by design" the Moz developers

Did you check for the existence of two (ever so slightly differently named) folders where the Seamonkey keeps its data

Each install, upon first run, create a folder with some random characters in its name.

If so, your data may be in the old of those two "uniquely named" folder.

Seems Opera would find both if two exist. But, maybe not -- maybe only use the latest

(Slackware 12.1) I use news on seamonkey. Yep, next where my data kept, **it is** under the (randomized) folder

in my case (randomized) it's k92yzx9z.slt

Code:
al@G33T-M2:~/.mozilla/default$ pwd
/home/al/.mozilla/default
al@G33T-M2:~/.mozilla/default$ ls
Cache/ XUL.mfasl k92yzx9z.slt/
al@G33T-M2:~/.mozilla/default$ cd k92*
al@G33T-M2:~/.mozilla/default/k92yzx9z.slt$ ls
24546110.s cert8.db localstore.rdf panels.rdf virtualFolders.dat
Mail/ chrome/ mailViews.dat prefs.js
News/ downloads.rdf mimeTypes.rdf search.rdf
bookmarks.html key3.db panacea.dat secmod.db
al@G33T-M2:~/.mozilla/default/k92yzx9z.slt$
Alan.

Hi Alan,

I did solve the problem of OperaMail refusing to load by deleting /home/username/.opera. When I restarted Opera, it remade its .opera directory. Then I was asked to OK the license agreement, then I could import.

But, I'm having other problems as well... I installed the SlackBuild for JPilot, but I cannot reuse my .jpilot directory, too.
Quote:
Error opening file: ToDoDB.pdb
Error opening file: DatebookDB.pdb
Error opening file: DatebookDB.pdb
Unable to open jpilot.alarms file
But, the permissions all seem OK in /home/username, so I'm, not sure as to what's going on. It's like Slackware 12.2 is having a problem reusing the hidden files in my home.

There's only one profile under .mozilla. SeaMonkey has my bookmarks and cache, but it does not have access to my emails, email settings, addressbook and passwords. I just now crossposted to the Mozilla forums about this, but since I'm having issues with other apps accessing their respective hidden directories in /home, I'm not at all sure that this is the fault of the application.

Thank you for trying to help!
-Joe

I need to know if maybe my home became corrupted. I'm currently testing by installing fedora 9 to see if I can fully utilize my hidden directories. If not, then somehow my home is messed up. If I can, then for some reason Slackware won't use them. I'll report back either way.

Thanks,
-Joe

It's the same in Fedora with SeaMonkey, but at least I do have access to .jpilot again. So, at least I can see all my appointments.

Thanks,
-Joe
