Sound issues with USB device
I think that I need to start another thread, because all the other ones don't seem to have what I need to hear.
Actually I am not sure that they have what the thread starters need to hear either. But anyways.
I have some cheap USB audio speakers. Here is my proc/bus/usb/devices for them:
T: Bus=01 Lev=02 Prnt=02 Port=03 Cnt=03 Dev#= 6 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0d8c ProdID=0001 Rev= 0.10
S: Manufacturer=C-Media INC.
S: Product=USB Audio
C:* #Ifs= 2 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=01 Prot=00 Driver=audio
I: If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=audio
I: If#= 1 Alt= 1 #EPs= 1 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=audio
E: Ad=06(O) Atr=09(Isoc) MxPS= 192 Ivl=1ms
I have to use USB speakers because I have a low profile box, and my computer locks up when I use the onboard audio and my screen card, a problem I had under Windows as well.
Anyways, I am digressing. What the problem is is that even if I load ALSA drivers into the kernel, and USB Audio and stuff, it only plays with the Alsa version of the OSS drivers as modules. And when it does play, if any program tries to access the harddrive, then the sound gets distorted, and sometimes the audio stops altogether.
I should point out that I am using Slackware 10, and Kernel 2.6.7. Also, if I boot into kernel 2.4.22, then I don't ahve this problem. In fact I don't have many problems at all with 2.4.22. Maybe I should go back. I just wish that I could use 2.6.7 as efficiently.
Thanks for any help, and if you need extra information, please don't hesitate to post me.
