Angry Sound issues with USB device, possibly because of Harddrive

I have asked questions about this before, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere.

I have a system taht is running kernel, and slackware 10.0. I also have a pair of USB speakers, and a seagate 40gig hard drive.

My problem is this: My sound distorts dramatically when the harddrive is being accessed. There is no problem with this if I use 2.4.22 (or something along those lines), but I can not use this (2.4.22) kernel now, because I upgraded something, and it doesn't work properly any more.

I have tried every thing under the sun, as far as I can work out. So, now I am asking myself if it could be something in teh kernel that is making it that it can't access the harddrive and use music at the same time. The filesystem that I am using by teh way is the risterfs, or how ever it is spelt.

I know that this isn't very discriptive, if anyone has any questions about the system, I am happy to post them.

I really am confussed about what could possibly be going wrong with the computer.

THanks in advance.

Fixed it

This is the song that doesn't end.

I have fixed the problem. Simple really, I didn't have DMA working on my hard drive. Because I had modulised the VIA86(?)xxxx thing in teh kernel. So, if you ever have this problem, put y instead of m for the VIA thingy.

Love you all.

I am so happy. Golly I am depressing.
