Sound in Slack 9.1

I have a Dell inspiron 2650 and running the new slackware. I am unable to get sound. Any ideas

What kind of sound card is it? That's helps us determine this problem.

run "alsamixer" and make sure that you volum controls are not muted. They will have an "MM" on top of them if they are. After you unmute and set the sound where you want it run "alsactl store" to save the settings. If that is not the case then run a "lspci" or a "scanpci" and see if it will determine what type of soundcard you have.

subekk0 got it! I had to do the same; they are all muted by default (and volumes at 0). If you don't want to look at the manual page, to unmute, just press "m". Good luck!

my card is a SIGMATEL STAC 9700 AC97. Sorry forgot to add it to my post.
