Most likely, the dependencies are already installed. If the autogen.sh process throws an error, we'll know you're missing a dependency.

i installed the newer version, no error, fallowed the prodecure and all.
nothing change, still have the greenish lilo screen and the pinguin is still weirdly colored, resolution screen still weird until i click on the display icon in KDE.
i am starting to wonder if its really a driver issue, i am not a pro but i dont think the xorg driver are loaded before lilo start.
i modified the lilo display parameter, formerly set to vesa, i set it to vga and nothing change.
that is a verry weird issue.
perhaps installing the newest version of the kernel will change it?
Yeah, the updated driver would only really fix the screen resolution and perhaps color issues after Xorg starts. If the lilo boot screen is green, then typically I would say that there's something up with the video card itself. Except you said you didn't have these problems with Ubuntu.. Was the Ubuntu boot screen green?
Adam
EDIT: Or, perhaps, there's just a loose cable running from the monitor to the video card?

Ubuntu menu was black and white.
there is no loose cable and my video card work perfectly in windows xp.
Fallout 3 run fine, farcry 2 run fine, no color issues, nothing, nada.
i know its really a minor bug, but i must say i am intrigued.
I think i can fix the resolution issue by forcing xorg to adopt only 1 resolution, i had a similar problem with ubuntu, the refresh rate was stuck at 50 and i was able to force it to 75.
One of the friend i had got an idea. he said perhaps my lilo.conf file is simply not used by the system and linux is using an alternative configuration to boot, some kind of failsafe inside the system.
i got doubt its possible but i am gonna look for that track.
he also pointed out that perhaps its possible to add a command line in lilo.conf to load radeon drivers.
The radeon driver in slackware 13 will only work in Xorg. In newer kernels (such as in -current), there is a modesetting driver in the kernel for radeon cards that you can use (and, I think, is used by default).

i guess it mean installing the latest kernel is worth trying?
You can try. However if you update the kernel to use KMS, you'll have to recompile/update libdrm (to enable KMS) and then recompile xf86-video-ati again against the newer libdrm.
small update, i have been able to fix 1 thing, i messsed around with xorg.conf and find a way to set a default screen resolution to use, i can now load KDE without being forced to change it every time.
i added this line in the screen section:
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1680x1050"
Distribution: Slackware (personalized Window Maker), Mint (customized MATE)

I encountered similar problem with my ThinkPad T60 and Radeon X1300 (see: here and here). I solved it by changing VGA mode to 790 or 791 and by replacing logo_linux_clut224.ppm by logo_linux_vga16.ppm (see: /usr/src/linux/drivers/video/logo).

i dunno if its your modification who fixed it, but for some reason i forgot loading lilo after every modification.
yayy no more green logo!
1 problem remain: cant get out of KDE without freezing.
UPDATE:work fine now too! i will post a complete tutorial of what to do to fix the annoying x1800XT bugs so that other people can benefit from it.
Over the years, ATI cards have given me fits in Linux AND windoz. Their drivers are CRAP.
Please, save yourself possible future heartache- throw that sucker into a ditch and get yourself an nVidia. Since you're running Linux, you probably aren't running much stuff that requires a 'hot' video card. Pick yourself up a $30 nVidia - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...48&name=NVIDIA
Heck, it looks like that is a circa 2005 card... ANY current $30 cards should match it's performance....
