hey everyones! i got a series of weird problems with slackware 13, i never experienced such problem before, last build i used was a long time ago, 9.x something.
well, when i load lilo, everything is greenish and weird, i tried to change the picture with Lilo.conf, fallowing the exact instruction given by linux forum, dosnt work. the linux logo got verry strange colors has well, verry ugly.
at first i tried to install my ati driver, but my x1800 is not supported anymore, so i decided to run xconfsetup to use the default ati driver.
After that i have been in the xorg.conf generated by the setup and it seem they got the right driver, it say radeon in the device section.
another problem i experience is that everytime i lod KDE my default resolution suck, and when i open the control panel and click on display, everything goes right.
the last problem is more serious, when i order my computer to shutdown either by command line or with the logout button, the screen goes black and nothing happen at all.
Its sad beccause so far everything else seem to work fine, i installed my network card and my sound card properly.
I think you have hit a problem with the X1800 card itself.
I have an X1800XT in one box at home, and when I installed Slackware on it I had constant graphics issues. Lilo's image (as you said) was green and messed up instead of clean and black and I couldn't get the driver to work properly when Linux loaded, with problems like the whole thing freezing dead when trying to swap in and out of X.
My solution was simply to replace the card with a good quality nvidia card instead, all of which have worked perfectly.

its really weird, i never had those problem when i was running Ubuntu...
if you know a workaround, i take it, i really dont wanna buy another video card...
My workaround was to move to nvidia I'm afraid. I can't really help.
well, thanks at least i know its about the video card now.
i wait and see if other user have found a way to fix it, and if nobody does, i am gonna look for a way to fix it myself.
You only have one monitor attached to the video card, correct? Do these problem persist if you hook your monitor up to the other DVI port? What is the native resolution of this video card? Can you try using EXA instead of XAA? In the Device section of your xorg.conf file, add this one line:

dosnt work if i connect it in the other HDMI port, not even in windows.
native resolution of my display is 1920x1080, and everytime i book it seen to keep that resolution until i go in the display section, then it automaticly set to 1680x150
i added your line in the exact section and it dosnt work, but it dosnt crash my linux either.
Well you could try updating the radeon driver, but that's the only thing that jumps to mind. The one -current should work in Slackware 13.0, I believe. Ubuntu could very likely have been using a newer version of the driver than what you have.

but there is a section that somehow scare me beccause they didnt mention slackware. here it is:
Now you have to install build dependencies for driver. Your package manager should have easy functionality for installing all the necessary packages. But for example there is:
