As well as having a "Backup" line in /etc/lilo.conf with this kernel. Just a recommendation for 15.0, "must have" for -current
I run GRUB. know extremely little about lilo to try it on a multiboot, but thanks anyway.

It might be risky, and I might come unstuck some time, but I've used slackpkg to update/upgrade all the kernel changes we had in 14.2, current for the months I ran it, and now 15.0.
I get it, but I am too much of a newbie and thus I am willing to go an extra mile to avoid as much trouble as possible. Thanks for contributing.

Wise choice. I wasn't suggesting anybody else follow my example, only that I have got away with using slackpkg so far with no problems.

I can’t remember why, but I run install-new first

You're more likely to have to run install-new on current. Can't remember ever having to run it on a stable release.

Do you get a new kernel with that, if there is one available?

No, as brianL pointed out that is mostly used with slackware-current, when new software/packages are added to the mix

It doesn't matter in principle, but with grub you can run a backup kernel with it's initrd w/o editing grubconfig from grub's console.
