No luck. I am experiencing the same problem as with other distros running i3 without reducing the system itself - audio/video lag, stutter, reloading, etc.

To investigate, you could run htop when these issues arise.

Thanks. I am a bit out of my depth here. I know what I install on other (.deb based) systems, but as to how the processes being run compare, I can't say as Slackware is quite unique in the mix of required processes/software.
----
Here is a list of all non-distro specific packages that I install on a .deb based minimal system. There are of course a few dependencies that get pulled in, but I minimize those by using a special file that only pulls in required packages, not recommended or suggested:

axel aria2 aspell-da audacity alsa alsa-utils apulse clipit conky cups dmenu fdpowermon feh firmware-linux-nonfree fotoxx gcolor2 geany gmrun i3-wm i3blocks i3lock leafpad lxterminal lynx megasync python-vte ripperx scrot slim vivaldi volti wicd xarchiver xcfa xfe xorg

Musescore is run as an AppImage due to a Musescore specific bug that hasn't been nailed down yet.

Codecs and specific libs are missing.

If you need to search for a missing package you can do so like so:
Code:
slackpkg search packagename
slackpkg file-search library or filename
If you have sbopkg installed:
Code:
sbopkg -g packagename
sbopkg -s packagename

If you are looking to use codecs that are not apart of base Slackware, they should be found in alienBOB's repo or on SlackBuilds.org. This is Slackware and it's not as simple as enabling the non-free or contrib portions of the Debian repositories. You will have to be more descriptive if you need help finding a specific codec or missing library. Forget about the notion of a minimal system, Slackware is designed as a one size fits all solution and comes with mostly everything you need, aside from a handful of 3rd party packages.

Thanks, but I have more or less the packages that I have installed on a Devuan minimal system, the problem is the underlying Slackware system that is using way too many resources. How do I cut it back to what I need (or do a fresh minimal install) of approximately the same size and resource demands, without fritzing the Slackware system? My instinct would be to cut out (or not install) all KDE and XFCE4 bits as a start. It is important to remember however, that my goal is a fully functional, graphical system - just light weight. Regarding SBo packages, I already have those pre-built from another x86_64 machine that I can install from a USB pen drive.

The way you handle this issue can't lead to a solution.

As you are not open to reconsider it, I suggest that instead you just stay with Devuan, which seems to work well enough for your use case with this machine.

You could try doing a Salix Basic install and then install i3 from Sbo

Or maybe pulse is the problem. https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ml#post5836357
