slackware and cyrus

I am a slackware user but several months ago I set up an SuSE SE server with cyrus imap and postfix MTA.

I was looking some discussions about IMAP and I found on several sites that the best choice for IMAP server is the cyrus-postfix.

Is that true??

After experiences with suses imap I want to put it in my slackware box. Is that posible??

I try to compile it but something I done wrong way. It looks for some libcyrus.a library. This library in SuSE is in the cyrus-imapd-devel package.

Here is the output of the make install

Code:
./install-sh -d /usr/local/bin
./install-sh -d /usr/local/lib
./install-sh -d /usr/local/include/cyrus
./install-sh -d /usr/local/man/man1
./install-sh -d /usr/local/man/man3
./install-sh -d /usr/local/man/man5
./install-sh -d /usr/local/man/man8

It's debatable what is "the best" IMAP server and it mostly depends on deployment needs than anything else.
I find the UW-IMAP server distributed with Slackware as reliable and sufficient in most cases. You may
avoid the mess with own package creation and it may serve as well as Cyrus.

UW-IMAP can handle MBX file format which scales well and removes most of drawbacks of classic MBOX format.
. mbx This is the current preferred mailbox format. It can be
handled quite efficiently by c-client, without the problems
that exist with unix and mmdf formats. Messages are stored
in Internet standard CR LF format.

mbx permits shared access, including shared expunge. It
preserves UIDs, and allows the creation of keywords.

Concerning missing libcyrus.a library AFAIK it's built from the same source package like the rest of Cyrus-imap.
Where did you get the sources ? Do you get some error/warning messages by running configure script ?
