As I submit this I am using Konqueror for the first time in my life. It worked on my good computer! Thanks for your suggestions on the fdisk and cfdisk stuff guys. Worked great.

I did have two fatal errors on the install though. I don't really know what they represented. One of them was when the source code was being installed and it did that on the old computer too so I'm wondering if all of these problems could be caused by a bad disk? I didn't check them for integrity (don't know how) so I suppose it is a possibility.

The main thing I'm worried about right now is if I'm going to be able to boot back into XP. I set it to put the boot loader on a floppy but I didn't hear the floppy drive going........I think I'm gonna shut down and see what happens. Once again, thanks everyone for the help!

It's best to use Windows to delete yout ntfs partitions. then use Linux fdisk or cfdisk to create your new linux partitions. most likely your existing partitions (except C are logical aprtitions in an extended partition. if this is the case your D: would probably be hda5. You can put all your linux partitions including swap inside the Windows-created extended partition without any problem. This seems to keep windows happier than having Linux in primary partitions.
