Im new to linux, i don't have any knowledge of the syntax involved in the linux kernel. I just finished installing mandrake linux 9.0, after instalation it goes in to the kernel and not the gui. When i typed in startx it says no screens found, ...
help im lost what do i do.
my system info is
cpu--intel p4 2.2
ram-256,
and
intel integreated vedio and sound.
i tried using XFdrake, but it didn't have my graphic card listed, it chose for me intel 845 as my graphic controler. I checked out the device mangaer in windows to see what graphic card i had and the one i had was the intel 828456/gl/ge/pe/gv graphics controller. When i tested the configuration in XFdrake it said "error no screens found with configuration". I really need help.!!! does any one know what to do in this situation?
Would it be possible to install a new relase of red hat over the version of mandrake linux that already on my computer?....i figure its too much work for me to install the driver since i have no experiene in the type of syntax required by the linux kernel. If anybody knows of a good distribution of linux that will have the drivers for the intel 828456/gl/ge ...graphic controller could u please help me out.
Of course you can install Red Hat. Just choose to manually configure partitions. That way you can keep your existing ones. Or you can choose automatic and have Red Hat do it for you. Then the installation will format the partitions and you will have a fresh install.
