Here we go again... upgraded to glibc-2.33 and one last mass rebuild for
Slackware 15.0. The only packages upgraded in this batch are glibc and the
kernels - everything else is just a rebuild against the new glibc. Not
rebuilt in this batch: devs (best to just leave this alone), glibc-zoneinfo,
kernel-firmware, rust, linux-faqs, linux-howtos, aspell-en, mozilla-firefox,
mozilla-thunderbird, and seamonkey. There's a new Rust compiler but Firefox
and Thunderbird will need to be patched to use it, so we'll hold off on
those until they're ready for the new Rust either with patches or new
upstream releases. Until we have that and a few more scheduled upgrades I'm
not quite ready to call this beta yet, but you can call it 15.0-alpha1. :-)
Cheers!
The next question, will Patrick jump on Kernel 5.11 for 15?
Extremely doubtful since 5.11 has not been designated a LTS kernel. 5.10 is barely a LTS kernel right now with only 2 years of support, but that could be extended if more distros step up their support.
After all, the Slackware 14.2 stayed on Beta for six months after a development cycle of two years, then I think that's a safe bet for Slackware 15.0 staying on Beta for more than one year after a development cycle of five years.
In the end, great news! Probably we will have it available on 2022.

6 moths, a year, doesn't matter that much. It's coming and this is great news not just for the Slackware community, but for the whole indie distros around. This is proof enough that Linux is not being held hostage by big tech companies... at least for now.
As a side question... I confess not to keep up with every single page of Requests for -current (14.2-->15.0), so I don't know if this was discussed there. That being said, does anybody knows if PV has plans to integrate php8 sometime before Slackware 15 gets released?

I'm feeling much more optimistic. The ship's made it through the storm and the crew, having seen a gull on the breeze, are sensing landfall. Not soon enough to say when with certainty, but close enough to crack open the rum and feel good.

Is that really a good idea? I'm just thinking of how long it took to get things ported away from php-5.6. If php-8.0 can *replace* php7 and nobody would complain, then I'd agree that we should do it.

This is a bit dark, I did laugh though. I think you're engaging in hyperbole. I think that 15.0 will arrive in months.
Current already on all boxes, couldn't wait much longer... :-) Great to have another confirmation 15 is coming soon! Thanks to Pat, Alien Bob, Robby and everyone else working on the upcoming release, reporting and fixing bugs, etc.
