Slackware 14-current obsolete programs.


I've seen many things going around in the latest changelog. Lets make a thread with broken programs.

I've found one of them. rexima. aint working. old oss mixer:/

I don't think OSS is obsolete. It is still the standard Unix sound system.

FWIW, you should change the title of this thread, you can't have Slackware 14-current, you either have 14 or -current, but not both.

Why run -current if you're only going to complain about broken things? What do you expect?

I don't think the OP was complaining, just pointing out that something no longer worked.

OSS is still available, but only as a SlackBuild. It has better latency, but not as many audio cards are supported by it however.

I thot that was part of the object of running current. Current users get to complain so that stable version users dont have to.

This is a good change. Kernel OSS was the reason for the "Why can can I play only one sound at a time" issues that some people got.

And if you do want OSS, get the far superior OSS4 from SBo. It doesn't work with my USB sound cards, but I'd be using it if it did.
