Thumbs up Slackware 13.0 Pre-Ordering

It's that time again, time to support your favorite distribution.

Slackware 13.0 DVD is dual side x86_64 (64-bit), and i686 (32-bit, i486 compatible). Get your pre-orders here:

If you cannot afford a preorder, drop a few $$$'s here:

Do you know if the Slackware 13 cdrom set includes both 32 bit and 64 bit Slackware like the DVD does? The page on the Slackware store for the Slackware 13 cdrom set does not specify 32 or 64 bit.

Did you click on the contact button from the store and ask them?

Just a wild guess is there will be CDs for 32-bit and 64-bit, since
it says Slackware 13.0 and nothing more about the arch. Either that
or you only get the 64-bit port if you buy DVDs. Post back when they
reply to your email.

I thought you meant dual-layer but checking up seems you were right. I didn't know you could get dual sided media - wow. Times keep on changing ! It'll be Blu-Ray next

It has been around for quite awhile. When they started putting movies on DVDs you would often find the wide screen version on one side and the 4:3, then the standard TV format, on the other side.

I pushed the button and asked whether the Slackware 13 CDs will include both 32 bit and 64 bit Slackware like the DVD does, or whether there will be separate CD sets for 32 bit and 64 bit Slackware. Here is the reply I got:

No only Slackware DVD will have both 32 bit & 64 bit.
So I guess you were right. Their will be separate CD sets for 32 bit and 64 bit Slackware 13. I'm going to order the DVD so I can have both the 32 bit and 64 bit.

No, you interpreted the answer incorrectly (it was not so clear to be fair):

The Slackware 13.0 CDROM set will only be available as a 32bit version.
The Slackware 13.0 DVD will be dual-sided with 32bit and 64bit versions each on one side of the DVD.

If you want the 64bit Slackware you will have to buy the DVD. The DVD price was lowered by 10 dollars yesterday to make it a more compelling alternative to the CDROM set. I changed my CDROM subscription from CDROM to DVD right away.

Note for clarity (I have seen more than one mistake with this): "dual-sided" is not the same as "dual-layer". You have to physically turn the DVD around to access the other side...

Thanks for clearing that up Eric. I did notice that the price of the DVD was now $10 lower than it used to be. To get both 32 bit and 64 bit Slack on 1 DVD for the same price as the CDs is a great deal!!
I just ordered a DVD. I also ordered another one of those really cool Slackware "got slack?" mousepads. They are big and warm and fuzzy just the way I like a mousepad to be!
