Slackware 10.2 installing ELINKS

Hi,

I want to try the ELINKS web browser. I have been using LINKS but would like to see if ELINKS is better.

I have downloaded elinks-0.10.6.tar.gz file... is this the right file for Slackware 10.2?

I have expanded the file but I'm a bit confused how to install it or go through the MAKE process. I'm getting some errors so I'm wondering if I have the BSD verions vs a Linux build version for Slackware.

Thanks,
Bob

the current stable release is 0.11.1
did you read INSTALL?
looks to be the standard:
./configure [flags]
make
checkinstall (make install)

Thanks for the reply... I have read the INSTALL but I'm pretty fuzzy on what it all means.

I'm logged in as root...

From within the elinks-0.10.6. directory I typed ./configure
and this is what I see:

loading cache ./config.cache
check for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/ginstall -c
check whether build enviornment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... no
checking for working aclocal-1.4... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake-1.4... missing
check for working autoheader... missing
check for working makeinfo... found
check whether make sets ${MAKE}... (cached) no
checking for gcc...no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in ${PATH}

You need to install gcc, the GNU C compiler. Get the package from any Slackware mirror (it's in the "d" directory), or from your CDs/DVD and install it with "installpkg filename.tgz".

Edit: you don't really need to be root to run the configure script, or make for that matter. Only "make install" needs to be run as root.

i'd suggest wiping the drive and doing a full install...
probably easier and faster than listing all the packages
that are most probably missing

My only problem with a full install is that I've only got a 3G drive. I find the pkgtool a bit cumbersome to pick packages.

Do you thinks this is the only thing I'm missing?
