I have just upgraded my Slackware current with the latest packages to 13.1 Beta1 and now I can't start KMail, Kontact, etc. The akonadi server has started but indicates "no resources found". The resources are in the directory "/usr/local/share" which is also in the XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable.
Any thoughts, anyone?
Thanks, bg4.

Yes, I've had the same problem since version 4.4.0, if not before and couldn't find a solution
so I un-installed (removepkg) akonadi and disabled the other two disasters, nepomuk amd strigi.
Doing so has really improved, overall, system performance when using KDE, especially with KDE 4.4.3.
As KMail still will not let one edit and then forward HTML mail, it is not a great loss, and Thunderbird is, afterall, a better e-mail client.
Other than that KDE 4.4.3, is a noticeable improvement over 4.4.0 (the last version I tried).

Reason: Typo.
starting kmail does not work
starting kontact works, but I always get the akonadi self test error report (after waiting until this is generated)
removing akonadi is not an option, cause I use kmail (and the rest of kontakt)
and without akonadi kmail/kontact will not start.
and my contacts are disappeared, when I open the contacts part of kontact I have the nice message that akonadi is not operational
seems to be some problem with mysql or imodb, stupid nonsense for me, I am not interested in a sql server for a mail program.
I regret it slowly that I have not moved away from kde4
I have tried that.
the good thing is, no more akonadi error message
the bad thing is, now kontact does not start anymore
removing the file did not help
what a mess
For anyone who made an upgrade from KDE prior to the 4.4.x series to KDE 4.4.3, I strongly suggest to delete old "data" and let akonadi starts from a clean sheet. Here's how I proceeded because Kaddressbook couldn't display my list of contacts.
Code:
akonadictl stop # stop akonadi
# wait some seconds
akonadictl status # check that akonadi is really stopped as it may take some time
# clean up old akonadi files and configuration file for kaddressbook
rm -R $HOME/.config/akonadi
rm -R $HOME/.local/share/akonadi/
rm -R $HOME/.local/share/local-mail/
rm -R $HOME/.local/share/contacts/
rm $HOME/.kde/share/config/akonadi*
rm $HOME/.kde/share/config/kaddressbook*
rm $HOME/.kde/share/config/kres-migratorrc
rm -R $HOME/.kde/share/config/kresources/contact/
Regarding nepomuk/strigi, again I decided to restart from scratch so I deleted the nepomuk directory:
Code:
# stop nepomuk and all its services
qdbus org.kde.NepomukServer /nepomukserver org.kde.NepomukServer.quit
# clean directory
rm -R $HOME/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/
G'Day, I tried gegechris99's suggestion but KMail wouldn't start at all then. It seems as though KMail is compiled to want akonadi. I put akonadi back however I get a new error now, "mysql log has errors" and the only error listed is the lack of a "mysql.server" table. I still get "no resources found" even though they are in the path.
My current workaround is to use Thunderbird and not use Kontact, KMail, etc. I would still like to get them working though.

Kmail is working on my computer (I can see the e-mail address from my address book). Also I don't have directory "/usr/local/share".
Do you have installed any self-compiled or third-party packages?
