I'd suggest just doing a search on
Slack & vmware, there's heaps of
posts. The thing is that you'll have
to (temporarily) create that directory
structure for the installation. Slack
doesn't use the SysV inits.
http://www.slackware.org/config/init.php
after reading that the relavent part is that /etc/rc.d/ is where to put your SysV init scripts and rc.sysvinit should find and run them for you
can u tell me how u resolved the kernel header location problem ... cause i am stuck there ... i downloaded the kernel tar fiel that matches my slack 9.0 kernel version ... i unpacket it but seems to be able getting nowwhere ...
Slackware doesn't come with the kernel sources, this are required for vmware to install, now you have two options you can download the latest stable kernel from kernel.org and compile it (there's a tut on it at the top of this forum) or you can download the kernel source in slack pkg from slackware site, here is the link :
this is the slack pkg kernel source for kernel 2.4.20 that is the one that comes with Slack 9,
download the file and do a:
installpkg kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5
i recommend downloading the latest kernel from kernel.org and compile it, you will get the benefits of learning on how to compile a kernel and customiized it to your needs and you will be a less newbie linux user like me
hope i get it done right ... hehe ... i got my slack to work with no hitch ...
one Q though ... in slack self u get in control panel place a linux kernel thing ... and it sais it can't locate the kernel files ... is that the same thing as whot i am trying to do ...cause if u can customize the kernel from in linux it will be easier ... right ??
you download and upacked the source but you didn't compile it, that why nothng happen, you must compile it, or as i said before and much simpler you can download the kernel source from the link above ,installe it and your are all set.
english is not my first language, maybe i misunderstood your question
cool ... thanx ... at least i was half way there .... cause i downloaded from kernel.org a huge kernel file off 145 MB ... untarred it ... but didn't compile ... silly me ... i will venture there when i feel a bit more at home on linux ... thanx for the link ... busy downloading it right now ... will keep to that one for now ...
anything to get away from windows ... i can't understand y so many people give up if stuff don't work right ... i think it is kinda fun but sometimes frustrating if u can't get things to work ... but like they say practise makes perfect ...
big thumbs up for all u cool people that takes timout to help us newbies get on the way ...
