slack svg logo [GPL]

I was fiddling with some svg icons and I needed a slack svg logo: looking on the propaganda page, I spotted this jpg that looked like a nice and clean candidate.
so I fired up inkscape and tried to manually trace a (manageable) svg version out of it.

then I thought that maybe an editable vector version of it can be useful to someone else and, as asked by Pat, I release it here under the GPL.

http://ompldr.org/vN216cw/logo-slack.svg

(gotta say I haven't looked around if any other logo svg has been posted before, but, clicking on the "Click Here to Find Similar Threads" found this funny one )

ah, while I was there I have done the same with the traditional website logo (used the courier 10 pitch font then vectorized it), can be useful too, I think

http://ompldr.org/vN244YQ/logo-slack-2.svg

still released under the GPL

Now if only I could teach LILO to understand SVG.

it can't but you can convert it with gimp to bmp sized 640x480, 256 colors (8 bit).

plus you can open it with inkscape or any other svg editor before, and editing and applying effects to vectors it's easier than on bitmaps

Very nice, those both look great, even at ridiculously high resolutions. (gotta love vector graphics!).

I think I might have these printed out in gigantic size, and put them on my wall or something. \o/

Pretty cool, but GPL? What does this mean? A file that shows content based not on your idea is licensed a way that forces me to send the GPL with every bitmap i create from that file?

If you stay with that, you should add the GPL as xml comment to the svg

Q: Can I take a graphic, edit it, mutate it in some way and use it?

A: Yes, but by all means, please send us back your edit so that we may
see what you have done, and post it. (Kind of like the GPL, you know.)
personally, I would have used the WTFPL but let's say "creative commons"

I added checkers pattern to S (now dual-licensed under GPL and CC A-SA). There is a bug, though. The checkers pattern has low opacity, as you can see in Firefox, but when importing with GIMP I get opacity 1. I tried same patterns with different paths and solid fill with this S path, and they work fine. Only the pattern fill with this S path is broken. What am I doing wrong?

it's because you used patterns, they don't play well with other apps when they try to rasterize them.
try to create yourself the shapes of the pattern, like in this

http://ompldr.org/vN25nZg/logo-slack-checkered.svg

I left in the svg the manual created pattern (cloning squares) I clipped (a path action) putting over an "S" path.

the side problems of doing this is that the number of points grows a lot, shapes need more time to render and the file gets bigger.

the original plan, for me, was to use the logo on stuff like this, so I tried to avoid complexity

http://ompldr.org/vN25ndg/applicatio...ressed-tar.svg

(I took the package icon from here)

let just say all this stuff is released under the respective place-where-I-took-the-original license (GPL in either case )
I think creative commons licence shouldn't be applied for derivative works of GPL stuff (also if the one linked could be more or less compatible).
