Just picked my ps3 up last week, and right now I am waiting to finish up my last final on Wednesday before I really tear into it. Apparently Yellow Dog has a distribution set up for the ps3, but I want slack! I figured that if anyone has looked into it, it would be someone that sticks their noses into this forum from time to time. So...has anyone slacked it yet?
If someone wants to make a project out of this, I am willing to work on it. I am going to graduate school in computational mathematics, and the thought of the cell processor makes me drool. I can't wait to put the thing to work!
Remember that the PS3 is PPC based, so you'd have to start with something like Slackintosh. I believe it also needs a special kernel module, maybe even just a special kernel to run (the one used by the special PS3 edition of Yellow Dog).
I have a PS3 (actually my brother does), and I too was thinking about it, but considering that it is DRM'd up the @$$, I'm not too enthusiastic about it.
Last I heard the current maintainer of slackintosh was working on getting slackintosh going. I think the software runs fine, it just needs a ROM to boot with or something. Anyway, it can surely be done and would make a nice project for anyone who ha the time and motivation to get it going -preferably someone who doesn't have a wife or kids who might need some attention every year or so... Just kidding!
