First off: What is x.org? Is it just a new release of XFree86?
2nd: Today I also got an LCD monitor so what do I enter for vertical/horizontal refresh rates?
3rd: I have a TNT2 Ultra video card. I installed the drivers from Nvidia but I cannot get a resolution of 1280x1024. This is my monitor's native resolution so it would be great to get that part working.
1) Xorg is a fork of Xfree86 because there were some issues about Xfree license so some people decided to do another X server based on it (And it seems they're serious because they've just released version 6.8 with shadow & real transparency effects).
2) Read your monitor manual or search the web for that info.
3) What did you do to try to get that resolution? I mean, do you edited xorg.conf, do you used kde control panel?
Ahhh actually #2 solved #3. For some reason I didn't think LCD panels had Horizontal and Vertical refresh rates. Silly me. Thanks for the help.
Well here is another question that perhaps I should post in it's own thread... but what the heck.
I would like to have my VESA frame buffer display at 1280x1024. So I was playing around with /etc/lilo.conf.
I didn't see a 1280x1024 option so I tried vga=790 (1024x768 32K) When I try to boot I get a message saying that it isn't a valid display option. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Also, does anyone have any idea of how to get my console to be 1280x1024? Thanks!
I don't use framebuffer anymore but i would suggest you to try with another depth like 24 or even 8 instead of 32. Oh, and 1024x768 is the maximum you can get in framebuffer console, at least last time i checked.

You know you can find most of this information from google, I found this page for you - please try searching yourself next time: http://www.stefanbongartz.de/topnoteh_en.html (scroll down to section two) - Go for 24Bit or 16Bit as suggseted above. - I've used 1280X1024 in FB mode, but it's a little excessive :)
