Smile Simple Question....(s).....

Hey,

I'm currently using Slackware10 2.4.26 kernel....I know Pat has included the 2.6.7 kernel onto the DVD image i made, and I was wondering....

Is the 2.6.7 kernel which is included pre-compiled? I mean the 2.4.26 one is, u just install and it works (bare.i)....I've tried compiling my own kernel a few times now, with no success (I ain't give in, i was just wondering/looking for an easy route )...

If it isn't, i guess I will just have to soldier on and keep trying to make a working kernel

It's a compiled version, however a lot of people is having troubles with it so I guess you should try it thinking that it won't be easy.
Also, compiling your own kernel is a good learning step, of course always keep a copy of your working kernel on your boot loader so when the new fails you can boot back to the old one and try again

I installed the 2.6.7 kernel from disk 2 of the slackware install set without any problems (other than having to re-install my nvidia drivers). I just followed the directions (although I did not install one of the packages .. the one the directions said could cause problems).

Building your own kernel is a good thing to learn though.
