services for desktop slackware

I think that it may be a good idea for someone to put together a 'sticky' for the (un-)necessary services for Slackware desktop users. (i.e., desktop users should not need Apache, etc.....)

Could also include performance tips, such as those noted in Tom Adelstein's "Linux in Government: Optimizing Desktop Performance" series in Linux Journal www.linuxjournal.com/article/8322

Thoughts?

There are some priorities that are a bit strange. The default selection of Apache and several mail agents are not obvious components for my aging laptop...
But still, it very much comes down to choice. It is very hard to say what is relevant and what is not.
