Running DHCP at system startup on Slack 9.1

Hi,

I am currently transferring my server over to Slackware 9.1 and do not seem to be able to find a /etc/rc.d/rc.dhcpd script. All the other services I have got going so far (eg: nfs, bind) all seem to have one of these scripts, which, when made executable automatically start the service when the system reboots.

Note that I have already written the /etc/dhcpd.conf file and the DHCP server runs and works fine when called manually (from the command line).

My question is: Does Slackware 9.1 have a pre-written rc.dhcpd script or do I need to run the DHCP server from rc.local (or alternatively write my own rc.dhcpd script and call that)? Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

I believe rc.inet1 starts dhcpcd if you have marked to use it. So when you ran netconfig during the install you should have "turned it on". So you should not need to create the separate file.

ringwraith,

inet1 does start dhcpcd and all my Linux clients are running that (which is how I know my DHCP server is working correctly). It's the DHCP server (dhcpd; not dhcpcd) that I am referring to starting.

Thanks,

Paul.

Sorry my misread. The following page has a script that was written to do this and discusses briefly starting it.

Thankyou for the link ringwraith.

From what I can gather there is no pre-written /etc/rc.d/rc.dhcpd file for Slackware. I will therefore copy the one at this link and insert it into my /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

Thanks once again.

Paul.
