I wonder WHY we do not dare to skin the cat and move those Gnome things in their own gnome package series, like was in the past, instead of dumping them in that poor and over-populated L series...
We are afraid of the word gnome while using its tools? It is now the gnome word yet another political issue like Sys***D?

Some are afraid of gnome, others are afraid of plasma5 ...., this is life
Again, I do not lament about the Slackware size. I for one, I would be very happy with its size, even it reach 39 double-sided DVDs as installation kit.
BUT, I think that it is already big enough (now11GB as full install) to need a bit of more organization of the shipped packages.
And this is about "adding" some new meaningful package series in the structure.
Heck, we are right now (as size), the biggest distribution shipped as whole thing, excluding the OpenSuSE.
PS. I think that my point qualify well as "request for -current".

Because we aren't using gnome, so they aren't dependencies of gnome (in Slackware). They are dependencies for many of the programs in xap, which makes sense that in our current directory structure, should go in l/.
If it were in a gnome/ directory, some would not install it because they don't want gnome, then suddenly, all gtk apps won't work and they'll have no clue why.
*If* the l/ series were to be split, I think it would make much more sense to separate libraries needed for X-based programs vs console programs. Maybe keep l/ for anything not tied to x/ or xap/ and then create a new one that could contain all of the rest. That would make it easier for those server installs where they don't ever intend to run X.
Then, if we accept idea of organizing further the shipped packages, how about splitting the L series into something like XL series for anything X and XAP related, additionally the QT series for anything Qt, and so on?
Also, why the LAMP stack or the FTP servers and so on, should stay in the N series? I think that putting them in a dedicated SRV series would simplify the life of users; they would know that in the SRV series would be dragons.
After all, how many use at home the LAMP stack?
PS. I am a LAMP stack user at home, BTW...

I'm probably going to start moving to Plasma 5 soon. I think its time to move current to Plasma 5 since its moving on from kdelibs4. Then add the upcoming lts kernel 4.14. Start releasing release candidates and have a mid-summers Slackware "Sweet 16" birthday. Well that is my dream
