rc.modules deleted modules.dep

Hi all,

My UHCI controller keeps hanging. I decided to unload the module
uhci and load usb-uhci, because it works better. I had done this
before, but I guess it didn't work.

I edited my modules.dep to comment out the line showing where uhci
was, but I made a big mistake: I ran rc.modules. This deleted my
modules.dep because it kept displaying hundreds of errors saying
that the .gz files (in the modules directory) were "not ELF files".

How do I get my modules.dep back? I've done it before, but I forgot
how. Right now I'm typing this in lynx under a different kernel
because I can't start X. Help please! Thanks!

Ah I found my problem. I installed a newer version of modutils (2.4.26) and it didn't like the modules that were compiled for my 2.4.20 kernel. I reinstalled the old version on the Slack 9 cd (2.4.22) and it works great. With the newer modutils it would return "modulename is not an ELF file".

Thanks davidphillips,
