Question PKGTOOL problem ..


I `am noobie in Slackware .. I just steped from FreeBSD, so don`t angree for my noobie post.
I`am trying to install additional stuff from mounted into /mnt/cdrom Slack3 cdrom, but then i use PKGTOOL and routing it to my mounted dir, i get crash .. PKGTOOL simply exits without any word ..
What is wrong?

Sorry for my bad English, i`am Ukrainian

First of all: Hello Aleksandr, welcome to Slackware!

Second of all: disks 3 and 4 contain the source code, not packages, so you may have problems installing that using pkgtool (read: it won't work!)

Thirdly:

Have a look at Chapter 18 of the SlackBook (I don't know why I don't recommend this more!), it might help you out in the long run: [urlhttp://www.slackbook.org/html/package-management.html[/url]

In the short term, try installing packages from disks 1 and 2 using:

installpkg /path/to/mypackage.tgz

Big thanks, piete .. It`s work So, it`s difficult to install software in Slackware, because it`s requesting another software by dependecies . FreeBSD is much easy with it ports
